The place where I was born, and my father before me. While Watertown's origins date back to 1800, the Siragusa family's history in the city is relatively new with their arrival around 1917. Salvatore Malatino had found the area to be the perfect place to raise his family and eventually persuaded his younger sister Francesca Malatino Siragusa to make the move from New York's Little Italy with her own family. Life began on Ash Street, and a century later, the city is still home to some Siragusas, and still dear to the ones that have moved on.
Water power from the mighty Black River has always been at the center of the city, as you can see in this excerpt from a 1908 publication of the Watertown Chamber of Commerce:
